About Cycle Song

Cycle Song is a brand new, large-scale community opera celebrating the life and achievements of Albert 'Lal' White, the Scunthorpe steelworker who won countless trophies for cycling, including a silver medal at the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games.

Cycle Song is a co-production by Proper Job theatre company and Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir and has been commissioned by imove, a Cultural Olympiad programme in Yorkshire and Humber.

Both Proper Job and Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir wanted to create new performance pieces that explored the beauty of cycling as part of the celebrations leading up to London 2012. imove brought the two organisations together and Cycle Song was born...
